Platelet-rich plasma therapy, also known as PRP or Collagen Induction Therapy, is a form of cosmetic injectable treatment that uses your very own platelet rich plasma. Your plasma contains stem cells and growth rich platelets. When injected back into the skin, it accelerates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin to provide overall skin rejuvenation. PRP can also be injected under the eyes to combat dark circles and volume loss.
How does it work?
Your provider will draw a small tube of blood. This tube is then spun in a centrifuge for approximately ten minutes to separate the plasma cells from the other blood particles. The platelet rich plasma is then drawn from the tube into a syringe and injected into the desired treatment area, stimulating collagen and elastin production.
When will I notice results?
Results are two fold. You will see both immediate results and you will also continued improvement as the initial swelling goes down. Collagen remodeling occurs at the 4-12 week mark but becomes visible around the 3 month mark. Results will continue to improve as tour bodies natural healing cascade works its magic.
Is it safe?
Absolutely! PRP is actually a very safe injectable treatment and has been used in hospitals and sports medicine since the 1970’s for it’s wound healing properties. Some of the risks you may have with other injectables are not a concern with PRP.
Who is a good candidate?
PRP is great for anyone who is concerned by areas of skin that are starting to lose elasticity and volume. It’s a highly effective method for stimulating your body’s cells to produce new, healthy looking tissue. It is extremely effective for the delicate under-eye area and is arguably the only effective treatment for under eye darkness.
